Garden Classroom

We are so lucky to have a garden classroom. Today, we talked about water and learned three things:

  1. How much of all the water on the Earth is available for drinking. If a liter represents all the water on earth, one drop of water is available to drink! SeeDrop in Bucket from the Edible Schoolyard Project

  2. Where the water is stored. We built a simulation of an aquafer using bucks full of large, medium and small rocks to demonstrate how water is stored deep within the caverns of the earth and discussed the need to protect this precious resource.

  3. How soil rich in organic matter holds water for plant availability. We compared soil with varying amounts of compost to see which held more water.
